August 2008 - All Saints Church Features in Mail on Sunday Story All Saints featured in the Mail on Sunday on 10th August 2008, the story focused on Church Health & Safety and the need for All Saints to address safety issues with its pulpit. We would like to point out that there was an inaccuracy in the story All Saints Church is in fact 552 years old and was consecrated in 1455 not as reported in the article.

July 2008 - A Visitor from The Sudan
In July this parish was privileged to welcome Bishop Wilson Kamani from the Diocese of Ibba in Southern Sudan and his wife Agnes. They were part of the delegation of Sudanese bishops and wives visiting our diocese as part of their trip to take part in the Lambeth Conference.
Bishop Wilson had only been consecrated bishop 18 days before he set out to England and he has been called to serve in a very difficult diocese.
Bishop Wilson has spoken of an attack by the Lord's Resistance Army within his diocese. The Archdeaconry of Nabanga was attacked on June 6th, 24 people were killed and 5 children's corpses thrown on to a fire to be burned. Five hundred people have been displaced and are living rough. Bishop Wilson commented that all schooling had collapsed and prayer was desperately requested. Bishop Wilson can be contacted for offers of help or condolence through his diocesan e-mail ecs_ibbadiocese@hotmail.com
While speaking to a united parish service at All Saints on July 6 the bishop described the hardships his people face daily and when asked what we could do to help him he asked us to continue our support for the Sudan Link and to keep on praying.
During our service we offered our prayers for the Sudan and in particular for the Diocese of Ibba by lighting candles to form the cross of Christ. Before his consecration Bishop Wilson was head of the Sudan Relief and Development Association (SUDRA) where he had the unenviable task of managing a deficit budget in time of war and great confusion.

5th February 2008 - Bishop Conducts First Confirmations at School Pupils gathered to take part in the first confirmation ceremony to ever take place in a Weymouth school on Tuesday 5th February 2008. The Right Rev’d Tim Thornton, the Bishop of Sherborne, conducted the ceremony at All Saints’ School in Wyke Regis. Around 10 candidates from the school took part in the rite, which is usually administered to teenagers who have been baptised. The event was a joint effort lead by Rev’d Vicky Thurtell of St Mary’s Chickerell and Betty Port, a deputy headteacher at All Saints’, who is also training to be ordained herself. Betty said: "These ceremonies do usually take place in churches and cathedrals but we consider this school to be a worshipping community. Many pupils at school see this as their church. We are educating them and feel that having this ceremony here reinforces the idea that this is their worshipping community." Pancakes were served before the ceremony and two people were baptised before joining the others to be confirmed. 20th January 2008 - Bishop of Sherborne visits for Confirmation The Bishop of Sherborne the Right Rev Timothy Thornton lead a service of Confirmation at All Saints Church on Sunday 20th January 2008, during which Gareth Johns was baptised. Following Gareth's baptism the following were confirmed: Jessica Hughes, Andrew Hill, Jack Oughton, Gareth Johns, Jessican McAuslane, Abbey Bligh, Charlie Bligh, Katherine Rivers, Rhian Scourfield, Emily Scourfield, Matthew Diment, Will Mitchell, Ed Mitchell, Rachel Elliott, Claire Johns, Stephanie Mansfield, Catherine Wilde.

Following the confirmation the Bishop blessed the new toilet and kitchen facilities in the base of the tower and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the occasion. The project was managed by John Brown and was possible due to a legacy from former Rector Rev Canon P R Rounds and donations from parishioners. The facilities mean it is much easier to provide teas and coffees in church and visitors for the churches many services now have a toilet onsite. This is particularly welcome addition for those travelling long distances for Weddings, Baptism and Funerals. The toilet is accessible by the disabled and also has baby changing facilities available. picture shows the Bishop of Sherborne, Rev Deb Smith and John Brown using the kitchen facilities.
